Hotspot 3 was held from Insuza on Saturday 26th June from 318 km. The race was difficult although the winds were not high. There was some headwind in places and the temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius. There was smoke from fires in some areas. Our tracking information showed that most late pigeons stayed on course but stopped because of difficult conditions. The pigeons were sent in super health and early returning birds recovered quickly.
The winning pigeons put up commendable performances with the first bird clocking at 10.49 am from Al-Watri Loft from Kuwait. The speed was 1384.98 m/m.
918 pigeons returned in the first 30 minutes and 1634 pigeons in the first hour. Many pigeons found the conditions difficult and came late having stopped before reaching home. This is evident from the data downloaded from late trackers.
There were 2215 birds on the day and by the time the clock was stopped at 12 noon on the second day, there were 2732 birds home. 35% of the basketed birds did not return in race time.
We have been posting periodic lists of later returning pigeons which can be viewed here- https://www.victoriafallswcpr.com/news.php?id=371
We are working on the late birds to recover them as quickly as possible. Some will need extended rest and a decision will be made closer to the next race to determine if we need a short extension to get as many birds as possible to go to Hotspot 4. We will make a decision on Thursday and advise fanciers in advance if there will be any change. Training will depend on the condition of the birds and any online training will be advertised beforehand.
The program is designed with a 2 week gap between Hotspot 4 and 5 to give us some flexibility to delay slightly if required.
The Super Ace competition is fiercely contested with 1746 entries. There were 1142 that returned in race time which will compete in the next leg. Credits for the Super Ace entry fee will be given as per clause 1.3 of the terms and conditions for missing Super Ace pigeons which is not transferrable to other birds.
The main activation will be moved over to Reserves as usual for birds not basketed for Hotspot 4.
All the competition results are live on the website (under the Results dropdown). Here are the current standings;
