RACE REPORT FINAL RACE
The Final Race at Victoria Falls was held from Tods Hotel 539 km from the loft on Friday the 25th July. Congratulations to those fanciers and their birds that returned and won prizes. The race turned out to be another very tough day. Kuwait birds took the 1st and 2nd positions with 3rd going to Slovakia and 4th to Germany. Yet again many different countries were represented in the top 10 results.
There was a North wind (headwind) to start which changed to a crosswind from the East by 10 am. The cross winds picked up considerably around the halfway point and the birds were pushed towards Botswana. Temperatures ranged from 10 degrees Celsius at liberation to a maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.
728 pigeons were sent to the race and the first pigeons arrived at a velocity of 1085 m/min. The race birds were prepared well, even so we had a hard race with only 160 birds returning in race time.
We are looking forward to our next season racing to Matobo Hills area where we expect considerably better returns on the new route.
Un-won Entry Credit Prizes of $84 000 have been split evenly between these 160 prize winners and added to their winnings. Auction details will be sent out soon.
