RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 4

 

Hotspot 4 was held from Insuza, 318 km Southeast of the loft. The weather was good with clear skies and mild temperatures. There was a cross wind which was strong at times. Many of the pigeons stayed online but the late birds were coming back from the West towards Botswana. The tracker results didn’t show anything significant although there was a slight drift down wind. There were falcon attacks and some birds returned injured. One pigeon was reported 100 km to the West in Namibia.

A total of 1463 birds were basketed for the race. The excess trackers and disqualified reserves were not included in the results.

Pigeons returned as follows.

  • The first pigeon clocked with a velocity of 1617 m/min
  • 31 birds in the first 5 minutes
  • 347 birds in 15 minutes - 24%
  • 929 birds in 1 hour - 63%
  • 1099 on the first day - 75%
  • 1192 by close of the race on day two - 81.5%
  • 18.5% did not return in race time

 

Hotspot 5 is scheduled for Wednesday 3rd July and pays out 60 places valued at US$ 44,000.
