RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 5

Hotspot 5 was held from Jabulani Safaris near Shangani on Saturday 17th July from 442 km with a 7am liberation. The race was relatively easy for pigeons that remained on course. It was partly cloudy with moderate to high tail and cross winds. The weather was cold in the morning with a maximum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius during the day. Our tracking information showed that the majority of the birds did not stop, remained on course and the front runners recorded velocities over 1600 m/m. Late pigeons went with the wind to the west or past the loft. The pigeons were sent in super health and early pigeons looked in good shape on arrival.

Salem Al-Othainah from Kuwait clocked the first pigeon at 11.32 winning $7500 closely followed by Geert en Leandra Munnik from Netherlands winning $6000. Third place went to Khaleefa Nasser Al Kuwari from Qatar winning $5000.

There were 562 pigeons clocked in 15 minutes and 1070 pigeons clocked in an hour. We sent 1913 pigeons to the race and 1482 pigeons returned in race time. 22.5% of the birds did not return before the clock was stopped.

28 trackers were downloaded to see what information could be obtained. 21 returned on the day of which 14 did not stop. 6 Trackers returned on day 2 and 1 on day 3. All the late tracker pigeons went to the west or past the loft and had to fly back into the wind.

The Club Competition has ended with Hotspot 5 and Clubs need to activate their birds before the Monday 26^th deadline otherwise they will be available to others to activate.

In final preparation pigeons will have a live toss tomorrow 21st July and the last toss on Saturday 24th. Pigeons will not go out the loft after returning from the Saturday toss. Basketing for the final will be on Wednesday 28th.

The Super Ace competition with its prize pot of USD 600 000 will be decided at the final along with all the remaining competitions. There are still 546 pigeons in the Super Ace competition. Who will be the winner and be crowned the Best World Challenge Super Ace pigeon?
