RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 4
Hotspot 4 from 405 km was raced on Saturday July 11th. The pigeons had a strong head/crosswind and the daytime temperature was unusually high.
The race proved to be extremely difficult with only 972 pigeons making it back by the time the clock was stopped. This is 43% of the pigeons sent. The pigeons that returned on the day of liberation and the following day were in reasonable condition but later birds were tired. We had some hawk injuries to attend to.
The poor returns is a big loss for the race and competitors and we apologise for any disappointment this has caused. We now have to re-think our strategy for the remainder of the program.
The pigeons will be given rest and allowed to loft train without flagging. During the day they will be in a darkened loft. The pigeons performance around the loft will tell us how well they have recovered and we will post videos to show the birds exercising. Birds that need more rest will be kept separate and rested. We may delay the Hotspot 5 and even shorten the distance to try and ensure as many pigeons as possible can make the final race.
